Author Guidelines

  1. The size of the manuscript should be A4.
  2. Manuscripts should be submitted in data format. Send the manuscript together with the submission form downloaded from the Japanese Society for Zooarchaeology website (https://www.zooarch.net/) and filled in, by e-mail or mail to the Editorial Board address indicated in the submission guidelines.
    In the case of an e-mail attachment, the file size should be limited to 5 MB in principle. If the file size exceeds 5 MB, please contact the Editor-in-Chief in advance for details on how to send the file.
    If the manuscript is sent by mail, send one copy of the main text printed on A4 paper, original figures (including photographs) and tables (or CD or DVD with data input), and CD or DVD with the manuscript (main text and abstract) and captions for figures and tables to the Editorial Board. A completed copy of the submission formshould also be attached.
  3. Manuscripts should include the title and authors’ names in Japanese and English. Articles, research notes, and reviews should include an abstract (Japanese: approximately 500 characters, English: approximately 300 words) and keywords (maximum of 5 words in both Japanese and English). Research reports, introductions to materials, and illustrations should include an abstract (Japanese: approximately 250 characters, English optional).
  4. Manuscripts should include the title and authors’ names in Japanese and English. Articles, research notes, and reviews should include an abstract (Japanese: approximately 500 characters, English: approximately 300 words) and keywords (maximum of 5 words in both Japanese and English). Research reports, introductions to materials, and illustrations should include an abstract (Japanese: approximately 250 characters, English optional).
  5. Figures and tables should be printed no larger than 17 cm (W) x 24 cm (H) and should be in black ink. If sent by mail, each should be mounted on a backing paper and covered with tracing paper, with lettering instructions and captions. The text should be in MS-Word, tables in MS-Word or MS-Excel, figures in JPEG format, and in all other cases, the software used to create the text should be clearly indicated.
  6. Digital photographs should have a resolution of 300 dpi or higher.
  7. For co-authored papers, provide the names of all authors and a brief description of their contributions after the references. Example: Hanako Yamada: Responsible for overall summary and writing of the paper. Taro Yamada: In charge of animal bone analysis and dating.
    Citation of references in the text should be by author’s name and year. 2 authors should be listed together, and 3 or more authors should be listed as “others”. For example, according to Naora (1999), …, Oyama and Oyasu (2000), …, …, …. According to Naora (1999), …, Oyama and Oyasu (2000), …, Sakazume et al. According to Oyama and Oyasu (2000), …, according to Sakazume et al. , ..,

  8. References cited should be summarized at the end of the text. Japanese-language references are listed in alphabetical order by first author’s name, followed by foreign-language references in alphabetical order by first author’s name. Papers by the same author should be arranged in chronological order. If there are both single-authored and co-authored papers by the same first author, arrange the single-authored papers first in chronological order. Next, the papers of the two authors are arranged in the alphabetical order of the second author (in the case of Japanese literature) or in alphabetical order (in the case of foreign language literature). If there are multiple papers by the same two authors, arrange them in chronological order. In the same way, papers with three or more authors should be arranged in the same order.
    When two or more papers have the same author and the same year, distinguish them by adding a, b, or … symbols to the year of the year of the first citation in the text.
